My Summer Reading List

Can I just say I wish I had more time to read? I used to read all the time when I was younger but have slacked off over the years. So I am trying to get back into reading again. I recently joined a book club which is really great because it gives me a reason to add to my book collection. Now on to my list.

Why it made my list: I had heard really good things about this book and the author. So when I joined the book club, this was the first book that was on the list. Perfect right? Now I am only a few chapters in and I will say it is hard to get into the book at first. After I started reading more, it really is interesting. I will let you know how I feel about it after I finish reading it.

Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.

Why it made my list: This is the next book to read for the book club, so of course it’s on my list. It was also recommended to me by several friends. I really think this one is going to be good!

Perhaps you want to know what Mindy thinks makes a great best friend (someone who will fill your prescription in the middle of the night), or what makes a great guy (one who is aware of all elderly people in any room at any time and acts accordingly), or what is the perfect amount of fame (so famous you can never get convicted of murder in a court of law), or how to maintain a trim figure (you will not find that information in these pages). If so, you’ve come to the right book, mostly!

In Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?, Mindy invites readers on a tour of her life and her unscientific observations on romance, friendship, and Hollywood, with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls. Mindy Kaling really is just a Girl Next Door—not so much literally anywhere in the continental United States, but definitely if you live in India or Sri Lanka.

Why it made my list: Mindy Kaling is extremely funny and I have heard really good reviews on this book. I figured why not read it.

Why it made my list: Can I just say Gone Girl? After reading that book by Gillian Flynn, I had to get this one. Her books keep you guessing!

Now there are probably a lot more books that I will add to my list over time. I can’t wait to let you know my reviews on these once I get them read and I’ll keep you updated on the book club.
