Life Lately December 2017 + Reader Survey

Hey Y’all!! I’m so glad you are here with me today. Things have been quite around here lately, I figured it was time for some catching up. So grab your favorite drink and let’s get to chatting.

+I have been slightly disorganized lately. Life was so crazy for me in October & November, with both of my grandparents going into the hospital and then my grandfather passing away. I honestly have not had time to catch my breath especially with the holidays happening right in the midst of my family emergencies. I hate being disorganized but I’ve been exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally. All I want to do is sleep lately which is probably what I need. With everything that has happened STH has suffered like crazy but life happens and there will always be blogging.  I seriously hope I get myself back on track before next year.

+I have not been feeling like myself lately. There have been so many things running through my mind about life in general and if I am making the right choices, etc. A lot of this has to do with everything that recently happened and conversations I’ve had. I’m sure that being disorganized has not helped either. It’s like I am just not feeling it lately in all aspects of my life. Hopefully some good rest of the holidays will help me clear my mind.

+I have been contemplating about changing the look of Sweet Tea & Hydrangeas. I am a little bored with my blog layout and thought about changing my blog name. Not sure what exactly I want to do yet. I think I want to stay around the same color scheme though. However, if you know any great places for WordPress.org themes, etc let me know!

+I am almost done with Christmas shopping. Thankfully I only have to get two gift cards and I am done. Next year I will be more on top of my game when it comes to shipping (hopefully).

+I had so much holiday content planned this year but I did not publish one single post. I’m disappointed in myself for that but I know a break was needed. I want to start 2018 off with lots of energy and kick butt with my blog.

+My grandfathers passing made a month last Saturday and I went to visit his grave two weeks ago. It took a lot out of me to be able to go visit but I am so thankful that I did. I broke down while sitting on his grave but I knew he was sitting there beside me telling me he was okay. At one point the wind started blowing like crazy out of know where, so I knew that was his way of comforting me.

+This past weekend I got to spend time with one of my best friends for over 11 years and it was so much fun. It felt so nice to be able to laugh and dance like fools. Sometimes a girl just needs a little bit of dancing to brighten her mood.

+I plan on getting my Blogging Bliss Series up and running again starting the beginning of next year. If you would like to be featured please let me know in the comments below. Read the previous posts here and here that I shared for the series.

+I’ve slowly gotten back into wedding planning mode and I am proud to say I have a huge chunk of items checked off my list. I want to share my wedding planning experience as well on the blog. Would y’all like to see that type of content for next year?

I hope you all enjoyed catching up with me and my life lately. What has been going on in your life? What are your plans for Christmas?

I’d love to know in the comments below.

I’m so sorry for your loss. This is not an easy time of year for hospital visits or funerals. I lost my grandpa just three days after Christmas one year and spending the holidays in the hospital prior to his passing was a period of exhaustion I’ll never forget. I look forward to your posts in the new year and we are new to blogging but we might be interested in your Blogging Bliss series.

Thank You Shanna. It was a very rough time for me during the holidays with visiting the hospital. It was very exhausting for me and my family but we have pulled through. I still have my days were I miss my grandfather like crazy but I know he is no longer suffering. I took a very long blogging break and am finally back. So I will have lots of new posts coming soon.

Unfortunately, I really resonated with your post. My grandpa passed away 8 days ago, and prior to that, he was in the hospital for a month. I was with him mostly every day and with my grandma the other days. I was very close with him and I’m just not myself. I’m trying to figure out how to navigate life after such a great loss.

Lindsay I am so sorry to hear about your grandfathers passing. When my grandfather was going through everything, it was so hard on me. What was worse is that my grandmother was in the hospital at the same time. It has been almost 4 months since mine passed away, and it has slowly gotten easier but the pain and sadness are still there. I was very close to my grandfather as well, so when I go visit my family and he’s not there, it’s so hard. I have my good and bad days still. With all of what happened months ago, I had to take a long blogging break to get myself back together. I am glad to finally be back. I hope things have gotten better for you. If you need anyone to talk to, message me! I am here if you need someone to talk to.

I’m hoping to get all my ducks in a row before the new year rolls around.

I am SO sorry about your grandfather. My grandmother passed away earlier this year & so it’s been a bit of a sad time to go through all of the holidays without her for the first time. Last weekend my husband’s grandfather passed away too, so it’s just been a rough year for us with our grandparents. I love that you mentioned the wind that blew over you at his grave-that’s so special. The weather here has been insanely cold and wet lately, but the day of my husband’s grandfather’s funeral the weather was warm and sunny-I truly felt like that was his way of letting us know he was in a better place.

Thank You so much!! I am so very sorry about your grandmother. Experiencing the holidays without my grandfather was tough. I still have my days were I’m really sad that he is gone but it has gotten better over the last few months. I am a firm believer that though people pass away their spirits are still with us. Every time I go to visit my grandfather the wind will be perfectly calm and then it starts going crazy. I take that a sign that he is there with me. <3

Awww, us bloggers put way too much pressure on ourselves, don’t we?

We need time to breathe too and focus on our lives and if we aren’t doing that, it can definitely be even harder to feel inspired and well enough to write. I struggle with the balance all of the time. So sorry to hear of you and your family’s loss!

Shannon we as bloggers do put a lot of pressure on ourselves. I took a much longer blogging break than I wanted but I am so glad that I did. I was able to rest and get things done in my personal life. Which was really awesome! I feel more refreshed after coming back from my 5 months break.

  8. I think we all need times when we simply step back and take a break from things. I find doing that often helps me come back refreshed and with even more ideas! Great idea to have a survey to help kickstart the New Year.

Thank You for reading Deborah. Losing my grandfather has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to deal with so far in my life. I know there will be many more obstacles that will occur throughout my life. He will always be apart of me, which I am forever grateful for. Thank You for the sweet words. 🙂

  13. Your first two points really resonated with me! I’ve had different things occupying my mind and focus, but my blog fell through the cracks the last few months. Slowly working on getting back on track, but one of my goals for the New Year is to be consistent with blogging again. AND your second point… that has been my life lately. If you ever want to talk, track me down! 🙂

Crystal I think sometimes we just all need a break to catch our breaths as bloggers. We are all human and though I love blogging, life comes first. I really hope that my blog picks up again soon. I am working on a lot of new things. I know you and I will kick butt this year with our blogs!!! I am down for making new blogging friends. 🙂
