Have you ever wondered why you get break outs in certain area’s of your face? A lot of women just think it’s hormonal causes but there is more to it than just hormones. Today I will giving you a little bit of insight on why certain breakouts occur where they do, using Chinese Face Mapping. I’ve seen past posts about this and found it to be very interesting. I am not one to break out very often but when I do it’s typically when “aunt flo” makes an appearance. But there are other times when it’s not that time of the month and when it happens at that time I’m like WTH.
You’re probably wondering what exactly is Face Mapping (mien shiang or mien xiang, pronounced “myen-shung”)? It is a type of chinese medicine used around the world that helps explain why certain areas of your face have acne and how it is connected to other parts of your body. This originated about 3,000 years ago (that’s a long time)! It is said that doctor’s in China can look at your face and identify a person’s health problems. Now to me that sounds a little crazy because how can you know what is going on in the rest of my body by only look at my face (now this method isn’t going to tell you everything that is wrong with your health, but it can help you out)? But let’s face it, a lot of spa’s and dermatologist offices are using this method. Your skin is the largest organ on your body, so when you’re having issues with acne, it could mean that something else is going on with your health. Don’t ignore it.
Now let’s get to what all these numbers mean.
Zone 1 & 2:Digestive Health- If you have frequent breakouts in this area it may mean that you are not drinking enough water. Staying hydrated is very important for your skin. It also could mean you are not getting enough sleep. Try getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep.
Zone 3-Digestive System: Breakouts in this area could be from over consumption of alcohol and fatty foods.Try drinking more water and eating healthier. Cutting back on sugar, dairy, rich foods, and alcohol can help clear up skin in this zone.This could also be from a food allergy. Breakouts in this area could be a sign of that.
Zone 4 & 5-Kidney: When you have acne around your eyes, including dark circles, this is a sign of dehydration. So drink up on your water! If you aren’t a huge water drinker you can also look into eating foods such as: watermelon, cucumbers and apples. Also, try to limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol.
Zone 6-Heart: Acne in this area typically mean that you have an elevated blood pressure level. So this is something to watch out for. Cutting down on rich foods that are overly spicy could help (now when you live in the south, that’s a little hard). Adding exercise to your routine such as 30 minutes of cardio can decrease your blood pressure.
Zone 7 & 8-Kidneys: Once again, stay hydrated and drink a lot of water.
Zone 9 & 10-Respiratory System: If you suffer from allergies (breathing in polluted air) or smoke, you may have issues in this area. Getting as much fresh air as possible is key.
Zone 11 & 12-Hormones: Do I need to say more? When it’s that time of the month acne tends to pop up in this area (at least for me it does at time). Drinking more water, getting enough sleep and eating healthy can help prevent acne in this area (I know who wants to eat healthy during that time of the month? Just give me some chocolate already).
Zone 13-Stomach: Eat more fiber and drink more water. Exercising as well can’t hurt.
