Happy Friday Y’all!! I feel like this week has dragged on and I’m so happy the weekend is finally here!!! Thank You Jesus, Hallelujah (in my Madea voice). Today, I wanted to share with you some tips on how to be productive, when you do not have a post scheduled for that day. We all know that when you have posts scheduled you get more traffic to your blog. But let’s face it blogging everyday is not always attainable (at least not for me) and sometimes you just need a break. I typically post three time’s a week (Mondays,Wednesday & Fridays) unless something happens. When I am not posting here is how I drive traffic to my blog.
- Update old blog posts: My old blogging posts were horrible. Well the pictures are at least. Spend some time taking new photos and updating your content each week. Once you update old posts, promote them again!
- Read/comment on other blogs: I spend hours each day reading and commenting on others blogs. A lot of times after I comment, I will look at other bloggers comments and visit their blogs. This is a great way to find new blogs and more than likely when you comment on another blog, they will visit your blog to comment back.
- Use StumbleUpon: StumbleUpon is one of my largest sources that drives traffic to my blog. So you should be stumbling your posts, as well as others! Read more about StumbleUpon here.
- Update your boards/pins on Pinterest: I am horrible at updating my boards & pins (slowly getting there). You can do this by adding captions to your pins and pinning other blogger’s post that interest you.
- Promote Using Social Media: I use Facebook groups and Instagram to promote my blog posts a lot. These are my two favorite ways to promote my old or current posts.
What are things that you do when you do not post? I’d love new suggestions!
These are all such great ideas! I try to do these as often as possible. I’m really bad about using Stumbleupon regularly so that’s something I’d like to get better at. Thanks for sharing!
Thank You Hannah! I try to do them as often as I can as well. Sometimes life gets in the way. StumbleUpon has been such a great and easy way to drive traffic to my blog. The only downside is my bounce rate tends to be a little higher but nothing bad.
What a great list. I’ve grown obsessive about reading blogs, who knew there was so much out there?! I’ve yet to use Stumbleupon, but will check out the link you provided. Love your name, too!
Thank You Sarah. I also get obsessed with reading blogs. I do it for hours daily because I enjoy discovering new blogs and learning new things. StumbleUpon is so easy to use!
Great tips! I feel like I’m SurvivAl Blogging right now. I have very little time to devote do I’ve been doing bare minimum. I could do some updating to save a little time and keep traffic coming. Thanks! Link with us: http://www.akreativewhim.com
Thank You Kate! I agree that life gets in the way and sometimes keeping traffic coming is not easy. Blogging all the time for me just does not happen. I have too much going on all the time. At least we are trying!
These are wonderful tips! I’m a new blogger, so I will definitely keep these in mind! Thanks!
Thank You Heather and welcome to the blogging community! I hope these tips are helpful for you!
These are such great ideas! Visiting other blogs always gets my imagination flowing.
xoxo Mickey http://www.mybashfullife.com/
Mickey I am the same way! I love visiting other blogs daily. I always learn something new.
Great tips, I’m gradually updating old posts, especially updating images for Pinterest.
Thank You Wendy! I am also gradually updating old posts and pinterest images. It is a task that takes a good bit of time but worth it in the end.
Great tips! I’ve been frantically trying to throw a post together today, so this helped me feel less stressed!
Greta | http://www.gretahollar.com
Thank You Greta! I to used to frantically throw posts together but now I try to take some time to relax and not stress so much about posting. It’s important to produce new content often but it’s also great to take a breather. 🙂
Great tips! I do all of these too!
Kari that’s awesome that you do all of these! They are all so very helpful!
I was just thinking I should do some updating of my photos. Thank you for writing about StumbleUpon I guess I have really never understood the exact way it works.
Mary I am in the process of updating old photos on my posts. It is time consuming but worth it because you can re-promote old posts. StumbleUpon is so easy to use once you understand how to use it.
I started started using Stumbleupon and it’s great! I can see a big difference in my traffic already!
Heather that’s great that you started seeing a big difference in your traffic with StumbleUpon! i love it! The only thing that is a slight down fall from using it is the bounce rate. Still a great way to get traffic to your blog.
Great tips! I am a new blogger, and I am loving finding all of these types of posts on how to make my blog better. I really need to update my pinterest and get involved with Stumbleupon. Thank you for the tips!
Welcome to the blogging community Jessica! Updating pinterest takes some time. I am currently in the process of updating mine. StumbleUpon is really easy to use and a great source of traffic! I hope these tips were helpful. 🙂
All great tips! I’ve been meaning to update old posts for quite some time. Hoping to get to it soon!
Thank You Rachel! I am also in the process of trying to update some old posts. It’s not always easy doing it that’s for sure!
Great suggestions. I used to try to post every day, and it just got to be too much. I’ve been trying to update old posts too. Pinterest is somewhere else I need to spend a lot if time.
Shann there is no way I could post everyday. I get worn out doing that. I’ve slowly been trying to update old posts and pinterest. I feel that life is always so busy to be able to do it as often as I would like.
Great list. Promoting content is just as important as producing it. I haven’t tried using stumble upon before. Definitely will give it a go!
Waseem I completely agree! You have to promote your content in order to get it out there. StumbleUpon is really easy to use once you get the hang of it. It will make your bounce rate go up slightly but nothing to big.
This is great advice. I’m slowly cleaning up and improving bot our old posts and our pinterest! Thanks for all the tips
Thank You Cynthia! I am also slowly doing both with my posts and pinterest. I hope these were helpful for you.
I just started using Stumbleupon this past week and now I am obsessed!!!
Kim it is so easy to use and a great way to drive traffic to your blog!
This was a great post! I love revamping my Pinterest boards when I have nothing scheduled.
Thank You Amanda! I am in the process of trying to update my pinterest boards.
Great tips! I love SU!
Thank You Alicia! I love SU as well!
These are such great tips! I love it <3
Charline I am glad you enjoyed them!! I hope they were helpful!
These are awesome tips! I’m not doing all of them and I probably should so I will definitely start!
http://www.typicalcliche.com/
Fatima thank you! I do not do all of these on a daily basis but I try to keep up with doing them as often as I can.
Awesome Ideas. I’m still new and posting every day, but I still try to make time to network and visit other blogs.
Welcome to the blogging community Marci! I blogged everyday when i first started as well but I became burnt out quickly. If I had more time to dedicate to blogging I would blog every day.
Thank you for these tips. It’s always good to be proactive and bettering yourself.
You’re very welcome Chelsea! I hope they were helpful!
I love all these ideas. I find Pinterest works really well for generating ideas and also my “blog seed worksheet” Always good to have a plan for you when we are not inspired, right?
Heather pinterest works for me at times but I am still in the process of updating my boards, etc. What is a blog seed worksheet? I have never heard of that. I always keep paper and something to write with me in case I have random ideas for post come to me.
Great ideas! I definitely need to go back and update some photos on my first posts. I also keep a notebook with me so that if I’m not by my computer I can make a note if I think of a blog post I want to write later. As long as I consistently have some post ideas, I can work on them when I get back to the computer.
Lydia I am slowly working on updating old photos in my posts. They were not that great! I always have a pen and something to write on in case I have a blog idea that comes to me as well. It’s always good to have ideas ready when it comes to blogging.
Great ideas! Thank you!
You’re very welcome Noemi!! I hope they were helpful!
Yay, I do all of those things. I do not post everyday only twice a week. The other thing that I spend time on is my weekly email. I like to send out a special post just for my subscribers. Thank you for sharing!
Jenn I could not post everyday. I used to try and I got burnt out really quick! I feel that as long as you are doing something to help improve and better your blog that is putting in work. I do not have a weekly email that goes out yet for my blog. I’ve heard it is a great thing to do though. I will have to look into it soon!
Great ideas! One learns pretty quickly that the work of blogging is not done just because there’s an awesome post up on the blog! 🙂 It’s good to balance out that work on different days of the week!
Rachel I could not agree with you more! Posting is not the only thing we have to do as bloggers. Blogging is hard work but so worth it!
All of these are great tools to use on your “off” days. I agree it’s important to get out there in the blogging community and really network and comment on other people’s blogs. I also really enjoy using the Facebook groups as well. Great tips!
Cara I have to take breaks on some days when it comes to blogging. I used to blog everyday and I became burnt out really quick. I love finding new blogs to read and networking with other bloggers. It’s a great thing to do! Using the groups in facebook has been so amazing for my blog. I have meet some great bloggers and learned so many new things. 🙂
Great post! This month I didn’t post as much as normal, but I updated all of my pinnable pictures, my SEO, and all of the phrases that pop up when someone pins my images. I made galleries for my images, started stumbling, and I also made some new projects like myself like I am now working on a separate advertising and separate disclosure page for my readers. It was eye opening to me HOW MUCH TIME all of this stuff actually has been taking, but so worth it for the results I am seeing.
This is a great post because when I used to blog, I didn’t know there were still things to do when I wasn’t posting. Now that I am making money sometimes, I know better haha!
Thank You Autumn! That is amazing how much you accomplished! I am still working on updating my pictures, etc. It takes a lot of time to do but as you said completely worth it in the end! I wish I had more time to devote to doing all of those things like you! Blogging is a lot of work.
I love reading other blogs – I wish I had the time to do that for hours! These are all great things.
Becky I love being able to read other blogs daily. When I am at work and it’s slow, that is usually when I am reading blogs.
I just wrote something similar to this recently! Using stumbleupon and updating blog posts has been my go to for blogging days that I don’t post. I typically take the weekends off, but I’m still around M-F, however it’s too much for me to post 5 days a week.
Alanna using StumbleUpon has driven a lot of traffic to my blog. The only bad thing about it is my bounce rate is a little higher than normal. I’m in the process of updating my old posts and pinterest boards. It take a lot of work! Posting 5 days a week is a lot and something I also do not have time to do. I wish I could but with work, etc it’s impossible.
I have recently been going through my old blog posts and freshening them up. I, like you, have some images that I’m no longer happy with, and many people who I network with now never read my early posts anyway! Great suggestions : )
Lindsay updating old posts is so time consuming! I have slowly been trying to do it. I also agree that not many bloggers that read my blog will read my old posts, but you never know. 🙂
Thanks for the tips! I’m a new blogger so will have to keep these in mind. Thanks heaps xx
Samara you’re very welcome! Welcome to the blogging community! I hope these tips were helpful. 🙂
These are great ideas! I try to do this when I don’t have a post up. I love commenting on blogs, meeting new bloggers are so much fun!
Leslie I also love discovering new blogs! I am always looking to make new blogger friends. 🙂
This is something I try to do on a daily basis. It can get overwhelming but I feel like if I do at least one thing a day (I try to do more) to promote my blog then I am still working.
Mayra that is great that you do these on a daily basis. I do not currently do it everyday but I try. I feel anything that you do to help improve your blog is always great!
Thank you for posting this! I am not using StumbleUpon. I have an account but am a bit confused about how it works … I think I need to learn!
Trish you’re very welcome! I hope it was helpful! StumbleUpon is really easy to use once you understand it. I was at a loss when I first signed up but now that I understand it, it’s been a great source of traffic for me.
Love these tips! Discovering new blog is always fun.
Thank You Chelsea! I hope they are helpful! I love discovering new blogs!
Great ideas! I kind of do the same thing. It gets to be a routine.
Bella thank you! I try to do all of these as often as I can.
These are all great ideas. Going back to my old posts and updating photos is definitely on my to-do list. I’ve never tried StumbleUpon, but keep hearing great things about it.
Rachel I am still in the process of trying to update my old post as well. StumbleUpon is really great! It may make your bounce rate a little higher but still a great source of traffic.
Very good tips. I am trying to be better about promoting old posts and recycling them on all my social media platforms. And I LOVE stumble upon too. I get great traffic from there
Yaya I am trying to work on old posts and making them better. I go through my social media accounts and try to clean them out as often as I can. StumbleUpon is a great source of traffic for me but it does make my bounce rate go up some.
I need to start going back to update old blog posts. I should definitely work on this when I don’t have a new post to work on!
Crystal I have slowly started to work on updating old posts. It is not always easy but it’s great to be able to re-promote old content.
I tend to not re-promote my old posts. I have a hard time with this! I also have a hard time having info I want to write about but saving it for later. I think that blog posts need to be current and posted ASAP. Definitely something I am working on!
Jill after I update old blog posts I re-promote them as much as possible. I am still learning new tricks and tips at becoming a better blogger. I am far from perfect when it comes to blogging. I also have so many ideas, etc written down that I want to blog about but end up blogging about something else.
Great ideas. Updating my old post is on my to do list for sure.
Thank You Tish! Updating old post takes a lot of time but it’s worth it in the end.
These are all really good ideas. I’m still very new to blogging and I really love reading all the tips from successful bloggers. I’m still trying to figure out Pinterest but I’ve already started using Facebook and Instagram.
Welcome to the blogging community Tiffany! I have not mastered Pinterest yet but am slowly learning how to. I also do not have a facebook for my blog but it is something I am also working on.
These are all things I definitely need to start doing, especially Stumble Upon. I’ve heard so many positive things from it. The only thing I worry about is my bounce rate & session time like sky-rocketing. Have you noticed a huge difference for your blog?
~Mattie
http://www.mattiesmakings.com
Mattie there is a little bit of a bounce rate that happens with using StumbleUpon but it is not bad (at least not for me). I found that it’s a great way to drive traffic to my blog. Some bloggers say StumbleUpon does not work for them and others it does. It varies for each blog.
Could not agree with this more!
Thank You Neely!
These are really helpful tips! Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Thank You Aishwarya! I hope they help you out!
great tips! I am sometimes at a loss on the days I don’t post so this will give me a great direction.
Sarah I was too at a loss when I did not post anything. I quickly learned that my traffic went down a lot when I was not posting, so I found some tips to help me out. 🙂
I love all of these tips! Good things for me to remember.
I’m glad you loved these tips Cassandra! I hope they are helpful. 🙂
Awesome! I need to really, really update old posts! They’re borderline embarrassing, but I just have to remind myself that they’re really old and I didn’t know any better 😉
Katie mine are too!! I was like gosh what was I thinking with those photos, etc. So updating my old blog post has been a progress. I am hoping to have some more updated soon. 🙂
These are all great tips, and something I need to get better at! I definitely need to comment back to other bloggers that have visited me!
Leah it is always a process of learning when it comes to blogging. Let’s face it we all have things that go on in our lives that keep us busy. I always try to respond to bloggers that comment on my blog. It really helps. 🙂
I’ve noticed that our traffic drops substantially on the weekends so these are great tips for keeping readers engaged even when you don’t have a post that day! Thank you!
Emma my traffic drops as well over the weekend but I try really hard to do all of these things to keep some traffic coming to my blog. I hope these were helpful for y’all. 🙂
Awesome tips! I usually spend those days updating older posts. It’s been an ongoing project for me for about a month now. Who knew it would take so long to update one 225 posts? Thank God, I don’t have years and years worth of posts haha I also take the time to catch up on my BlogLovin’ feed. I’m very behind at the moment so that may be tomorrow’s big project.
Thank You Keating! Yes updating old post is a huge task and takes a lot of time! I am in the process of doing it myself and I will admit I am slacking a little! I’m okay with it though because as bloggers we have a lot of other things we have to do as well. I feel that as long as I am able to do a little at a time, it’s a big accomplishment. I also need to go catch up on my BlogLovin’ feed too!
Awesome tips! I definitely need to be spending my time more productively !!
Thank You Mayara! I struggle sometimes with being productive but I try really hard!
YES YES YES! Even on days when I don’t get a new blog post out, I’m still working hard to better my blog! Right now, I’m slowly going through all my old blog posts, re-doing the images with my new branding/blog name and editing the posts so they are more Evergreen (removing old giveaway widgets and such) It’s taking FOREVER but I love knowing that I’m improving all of my content!
I need to get into stumbleupon! I will be reading your post it on!
Totally! I love spending time on Pinterest and Instagram whenever I have some free time.
Great tips! We are new at all of this and I really have to get organized with Stumbleupon! I hear great things about it, but have not figured that one out yet!
Thank You Carrie! Carrie StumbleUpon is really easy to use once you get the hang of it. I wrote a blog post about Stumble Upon that may help you out. 🙂
Such great ideas, girl. I have had to slow my normal blogging game lately, but I like the idea of updating old posts. I need to do this, and I can do this instead of writing a post one week, which is way more manageable right now.
Cleaning out my pinterest is a big one for me right now.
These are great tips! I am working to update old posts currently. I’ve never checked out stumble upon but it sounds like I should do that too!
These are really great tips! I usually try to promote an old blog post on the days that I don’t post new content and I also try to use the time to make my next post the best it can be. I really need to be better about reading blogs and commenting on the days that I’m not posting new content. There is always stuff to do 🙂
These are awesome tips! Thanks for sharing!
Rachel / http://www.seashellsandsparkles.com
You’re welcome Rachel. Thank You for reading. 🙂
This is a great list! I’m pretty good at using social media to promote older posts on days when I don’t have new content, but I definitely don’t use the power of StumbleUpon enough!
Nellwyn | http://www.thecardinalpress.com
Thank You Nellwyn! I try to use Social media as much as I can to promote old blog posts. It really has helped drive traffic to my blog on those days. Stumle Upon is really helpful as well.
I need to go an update all my old posts – so time consuming, but so worth it!
These are all great ideas! I need to still go through old posts to update them, Stumble them and add better Pinterest images. It’s a process.
Floradise: http://www.maretteflora.com
These are great tips! I also like participating in Link Parties! They are a great way to find new blogs to follow!
Thank You Erin! I love doing link parties as well. 🙂
I do all of these things except updating my old posts. I really need to update the photos on my older posts so that is the next blog project I am going to undertake.
Considering it’s rare that I have my week’s posts actually scheduled (haha!), I love this post! When I don’t post, I always make sure to still promote other posts and be active on FB, Twitter and Instagram! Especially IG. These are such great tips!
Love this, Mistle. My SU traffic has gone down lately and I don’t know why. =[ I need to work on it again.
xoxo, Jenny
Great ideas! I really need to learn how to use Stumble Upon.
Great list! I also brainstorm for future blog post ideas.
Thank You Dana! I try to brainstorm future blog posts ideas all the time. Sometimes I am able to and sometimes I am like well…
Great ideas! I really need to start working on updating old posts. Going on my to do list!
Thank You Carly! I am still slowly updating old posts as well. It’s a process that’s for sure.
