Do you ever feel like you never have enough time to spend with your significant other? I know this is the case for my boyfriend and I at times because of our busy work schedules. So we try to make the best of the time we do have together when things get busy. Rather it’s date nights or doing something silly, we make the most of our time together. Here are some ways to connect with your significant other.
- Talk about how y’alls day went.
- Watch movies.
- Bake cookies.
- Clean the house together (now I know this doesn’t seem like a fun way to connect but it makes you work together on doing a certain task around the house).
- Play board games.
- Talk about your goals and how you can reach them.
- Going out to eat at y’alls favorite restaurant.
- Cooking meals together.
- Snuggle.
- Visit your local farmer’s market.
These are just some of the ways that we find time to connect with each other. What are some things that you and your significant do to connect with one another?
YES! My husband and I usually spend an hour after we see each other unplugging. We go for a walk, make dinner or just sit and talk and reconnect after a hectic day. It’s definitely important for any relationship!
I agree Greta. Even if it’s 15 minutes in between everything that is going on it’s important.
I love cooking together and watching movies! Those are my two favorites. But doing something out of the ordinary is also fun too. We just went to a museum the other evening and it was so much fun!
Alana we always watch movies together. We are both movie nuts. I agree that doing something random and not expected is a lot of fun as well! It keeps things exciting.
I love this! It’s so easy to get sucked into our phones and not pay attention to each other when it’s important to make the most of our time!
It really is Amy. I can’t say that we are on our phones a lot. It’s nice to be able to detach yourselves and spend time with one another.
I love the one about playing board games – such simple phone that we haven’t done in so long. Cooking as well – too often we see it as a chore instead of an opportunity. Thanks for the tips!
I agree that at times we feel that cooking is a chore but it can really bring you closer together. Board games are a lot of fun!!!
Pre-kids my hubby and I loved baking together and cooking our dinner together. It was a great way to connect.
It is Hil. Even with kids it’s still a great way to connect as a family. π
My husband and i watch something on television every night after the kids go to bed. it gives us this wonderful chance to connect within the show and laugh at it together. Usually it’s food network too so we end up hungry haha.
Lauren that’s awesome!! Every time I watch the food network all I want to do is eat. In a way learning how to cook new things is great but then it’s not when you are starving. π
Yes! It is so hard for me and my husband to connect sometimes. After the kids are finally all asleep, we’re both so darned tired, we just want to mindlessly watch TV. We have to make date nights so we get quality time. Even if we don’t do anything exciting, it’s just that block of time that’s important.
There are a lot of days that after my boyfriend and I get off of work, I have no energy for anything. We do however have at least one movie night a week and we eat dinner together. Sometimes you just have to find the time to spend together, even if it’s only 15 minutes.
This is an amazing post! I agree with all of these! <3
Thank You Kate!
Cleaning the house together/cooking together is a must!! We love talking about our day together while doing daily tasks. It makes them so much more fun!
I agree Taylor. I know we both try to switch between doing cleaning and cooking together. Talking about your day together can really help pull the day together or if something wasn’t so great to get advice from your significant other.
I love the Farmer’s Market idea. Such a fun intimate little trip. Especially if you catch it when it’s not crowded.
My husband and I usually end up connecting by taking walks or cooking dinner together. Simple everyday activities are great opportunities instead of making if formal date.
Those are great ways to connect Erica! We do simple everyday activities together but we do like do have date nights here and there.
Great list! I actually love deep cleaning the house with my husband. We choose a day off once every couple months and do a huge deep clean of the house and it’s actually so much fun. Being in the military, he works A LOT so I really don’t ask him to do much around the house. He makes up for it with these deep cleans by doing all the tasks he knows I hate doing. I also love cooking with him too. I HATE cooking, but with him, it’s fun π
That’s a great idea Keating! We do de-clutterings every few months. Which I know is a good thing because I sometimes keep things that I really don’t need. Cooking is something I wish I did more of but we try to cook together as much as possible. π
These are like my favorite things to do with my boyfriend. But can I tell you just how much I adore the “y’alls”
here? LOVING IT!
Thank You Taylor! Being from the south y’all is hard not to use. π
Michael and I love to play board games especially when we go to my parents.
so fun!
xoxo, Jenny
Jenny board games are my favorite to play! We haven’t played any with our parents before but that’s not to say that we won’t in the future. π
Connecting with your significant other is so important for your relationship. These are great tips that show it doesn’t take a lot to show love.
Ashley I agree. If you stop connecting in a relationship it’s hard to keep the excitement going (not saying that’s the only way to keep things exciting) but it def helps a lot. I think showing love can be very simple. Small gestures are my favorite.
My husband and I leave our phones at home and take the dogs for a walk. We start by talking about our days and our conversations go to so many other places from there. It’s quote amazing.
That’s another great way to connect Nicole. I enjoy walking around because it helps me relax and have a clear head.
Great post. Thank you for sharing.
You’re welcome Tish!
Great tips! My fiancΓ© and I love doing a lot of these things!
Thank You Dara!!!
Great reminders to connect and just do things together – no matter what….even just taking a stroll or walking the dogs…. thank goodness we do the cleaning together – because my hubby does the hard stuff! π ) … and watching movies together…. or just running to Walmart together or a store is nice too! Thanks for these reminders!
I agree Claire that is so really important to connect even if it’s doing something simple such as cleaning. Watching movies together is one of the #1 things my boyfriend and I do together. Thanks for reading!
This is so important! Great post!
Thank You Jes! I agree it is important!
I do most of these with my hubby. We do date nights most months, but it is fun to connect each day with one of these choices.
Ashley, I love date nights because it gets us out of the house. Don’t get me wrong cleaning and watching movies at the house can be great but there are times I don’t feel like cleaning. π
This is so sweet! I can’t wait to have a significant other! Thanks for sharing :))
You’re welcome Rosalyn! Thank You for reading!
Love the baking cookies one! I’m usually the one doing all of the baking solo but my husband jumped in and helped one night and it was so fun!
Thank You Casey! Even simple activities is a lot of fun. We both love baking cookies!
These are great ideas. So sweet.
Thank You Erica. π
Great tips! It’s so much more fun to have someone to share the daily mundane tasks with. My hubby usually goes grocery shopping with me on the weekends. Even though it takes up a good part of the day he doesn’t mind and it gives us time together. We laugh and talk and get things done so much easier.
Thank You Leslie! My boyfriend and I typically go grocery shopping together as well. We tend to goof off in the store which delays us getting our shopping done but we still have fun.
I’m fortunate enough to be able to spend almost 24 hours a day with my fiancΓ© at the moment but I know a time will come when that won’t work and these are great tips! Thanks for sharing!
Christina that is awesome! Spending time with your significant other is always a good thing.
Aw, what a super cute post! I will definitely refer back to it if I ever meet someone.
Thank You Michelle!
Yes, yes, yes! I love all of these things. My favorite are talking and catching up (over dinner often!), snuggling, and playing games π
Thank You Kelsie! Seeing that my boyfriend travels a lot for work, we try to make the best of the time we get to spend together.
I think the one about talking about your day is the most important. There’s times we both get so busy it seems like we’re just passing each other as we’re coming and going, but letting him know that I care about his day and that he cares about mine is key. Great post!
Cara I agree! It’s hard not to get caught up in the craziness that goes on during your day, which sometimes makes you forget to talk to each other. I really enjoy sharing how our day went together.
I love this list! Somedays I get home from work and just want to shut down. Having dinner together always brings us together!
Brittany I feel the same way on some days. I try my best to interact with my boyfriend once I get home every day.
Seriously, doing housework with my husband is SO much more fun than doing it all by myself. I enjoy those times, and then relaxing in a clean house together! π
Rachel I am not a huge fan of cleaning house myself. It is much better when you team up together to get the house clean. π
Love love love baking together!
Rebecca I do to!!!It’s fun but relaxing to bake together!
My husband and I like to play card games. There are tons and it’s also nice that we don’t have to keep a lot of other games around.
Shani card games are a lot of fun to play with your significant other!
Lots of great ideas for connecting to significant others, and I absolutely love all of them. I try to do them with my significant other, but sometimes I get caught up in my work! xx Adaleta Avdic
Adaleta I am the same way! Sometimes having time with your significant other can be hard but it’s always nice to try. π
One of our favorite things is cooking together! Most of the time I just ask him to leave the kitchen but when on those times where I let him stay we have the best night!
Ashley I love cooking with my boyfriend but I will admit sometimes I would prefer he not be in the kitchen. Lol.
We do all of these. Board games is always a lot of fun, especially when you are both competitive.
Julie board games are always a great way to connect with one another. Of course competitiveness happens!
Lots of great suggestions! I’ve never considered doing chores around the house as a chance to connect but I can see how that would work. Great post!
Thank You Courtney! Doing chores together may not seem like a fun idea but it really helps get things done around the house. It also is a great way to be able to spend time together.
Spending time with Josh is huge for me. So we try to make habits of spending time together like going for walks, working out together three days a week, plan date nights regularly, etc.
Kiara that’s awesome that you and your boyfriend make time for one another. The simplest things can be great ways to be together.
The mister and I do a LOT of these! We’re big fans of cooking together, eating dinner together nightly (phones away, you know, so we TALK!) and going out on little excursions together.
We also love to take on an adventure together, try something new! Be it a travel destination, or an activity, or something that requires us to sign a waiver. Something we can experience for the first time TOGETHER to make memories
xxox

Laura cooking together can be a lot of fun! My boyfriend and I also enjoy traveling to new places or trying new activities.
This is a great list! My hubby and I make sure we’re making time for connecting!
Thank You Susannah!!! My boyfriend and I sit down at least once a week do something together. It’s a ritual of ours.
Love that you mention cleaning together! Surprisingly, yes, it totally helps you connect! Once you’re done with the task, sitting down to watch your favorite show together feels really earned and somehow more enjoyable!
Joy I find that cleaning the house together makes the chore quite so bad. I know when I clean house by myself it makes me not want to really clean (even though I do). I agree that once you are done you can relax and watch a movie/show together.
Cleaning the house together can actually be a fun one! Love this, Mistle.
Summer it can be! It also makes cleaning the house not so bad. π
My husband and I like to pull out card games. We like board games too, but I don’t like storing them.
Shani playing games is a lot of fun. It’s a great way to connect but also have a little bit of friendly competition.
My boyfriend and I need to do more of 6-7 and 8-9. And possibly many more snuggles! We get so busy at times that we don’t set the time for quality time together, which is very important.
xo, Elizabeth

Elizabeth snuggle time is always nice! I completely understand with being busy. Even if it’s 10 minutes that you spend together that is great as well.
My hubby and I watch a show on Netflix every night after the kids are in bed. It’s great to have that time together to connect.
Sarah that is awesome! My boyfriend and I watch a lot of movies after we get home from work.
These are great! I love waking up early on Saturday mornings, when Brad doesn’t have to work, to go check out the local Farmer’s market. Its always so much fun!
Thank You Lexi! I love trips to the Farmer’s market. It’s been awhile since we have been.
